Campgrounds

Campgrounds

The purpose of this page is to list and comment on the Campgrounds where we have personally stayed along our RV journey. These are my opinions, and not sponsored in any way.

Amana RV Park  Amana Colonies, IA

Huge gravel spaces.  Large RV Park, a nice, quiet spot in the middle of corn fields.  Very basic facilities.

Sioux Falls Camp Jellystone Brandon, SD

Jumping pillow, awesome park, huge swimming pool.

Cedar Pass Campground, Badlands National Park  Interior, SD

Gorgeous, gorgeous views.  A little tight for our 40 ft motorhome, but we managed.  Wifi at the Visitors Center, but none at campground.  We loved our stay here!  No decent grocery stores close by, so come stocked with food.

Elk Creek Lodge & Resort Piedmont, SD (near Rapid City)

Stayed here as part of Passport America.  It was ok, not well maintained.  Would not stay here again.

Grandview Campground  Hardin, MT (near Little Bighorn National Monument)

Small little campground with close spaces.  Very friendly staff.  Good for an overnight stop.

Sunrise Campground Bozeman, MT

Owners went out of their way to make it an enjoyable stay.  Good facilities.

Bear Canyon Campground Bozeman, MT

Snake River RV Park Idaho Falls, ID

Salt Lake City KOA Salt Lake City, UT

Nice, secured campground for visiting Salt Lake City.  Surrounding areas was questionable.  Staff was friendly.  Playground was really nice.  Great rec room and good laundry facilities.  I would recommend this campground.

Zion Canyon Campground and RV Resort Springdale, UT

Did not take reservations ahead of time, so a little hard to snag a spot.  Beautiful views.  Tight spaces, but ideal location for easy access to Zion entrance.

Valley of Fire State Park Campground Overton, NV

No phone service when we stayed here in 2015, so don’t come prepared to work.  Big Rig Friendly spots.  Great views, peaceful location.

Hitchin’ Post RV Park Las Vegas, NV

Decent location and well kept.  The pool was our favorite part of this campground.

Campland on the Bay San Diego, CA

Location is excellent.  Spaces a little tight.  I’m not a fan of their pricing strategy.  Great amenities-pool, skate park, beach, bike paths, right on Mission Bay.

Mission Bay RV Resort San Diego, CA

By far one of our favorite campgrounds, due to its awesome location.  Although there is no pool or playground, it is a short walk Mission Bay Parks.  Beach for warm weather.  Gate leads to walkway around the cove, which we walked daily!  Friendly staff, 24 hour security.  All back-in spots.

San Diego Metro KOA Chula Vista, CA

Convenient location to explore San Diego.  Great amenities for kids – jumping pillows, playground, pool.  Nice staff, very well maintained campground.

Indian Wells Carefree RV Indio, CA

The best part of this campground for us was the fact that it had three, heated (bath warm) swimming pools and two large hot tubs. Friendly staff, large rec room, decent internet. We preferred the front row spaces, or the sides next to the Date Farm.

Pismo Sands RV Park Pismo Beach, CA

Nice paved roads and spots, u-shaped RV park with central bathrooms, pool, and pirate ship play area.
Secure gate and Friendly staff.  Able to receive mail.  Short drive to the beach.

Flag City RV Resort Lodi, CA

Right off the highway.  Stayed for a very reasonable monthly rate for halfway spot to explore both San Francisco and Yosemite on the weekends.  About 2-2.5 hour drive to each.

Aurora RV Marina & Park Nice, CA

Quick overnight spot.  Just bought by new owner, so it needed lots of work at the time.  Location seems excellent.

Klamath River RV Park Klamath, CA

This was a gem of an RV Park. Location was beautiful, right along the river.  There was a nice playground for the kids, a cute pond, pretty flowers and landscaping in a peaceful setting.  Downsides were that Wifi was an additional daily fee, however, and AT&T service was non-existant.  The closest grocery store was 20 miles away in Crescent City.

Turtle Rock RV Resort Gold Beach, OR

Nice recreation room with TV, puzzles, games.  Access to beach directly from campground.

Osprey Point RV Park Lakeside, OR

Nice, large spots located right on a lake for boating and fishing.

Pacific Pines RV Park Florence, OR

Nice owners.  The most extravagant showers we have ever experienced at a campground!  Really great rec room with puzzles, pool tables, free sweets.  All concrete spaces with beautiful flowering bushes between spots.  Awesome monthly rates and onsite enclosed rv storage.  Convenient to visit the nearby sand dunes.

Portland Fairview RV Park Fairview, OR

Beautiful campground, very hilly.  Pricy for our taste.  Nice outdoor pool.

Coyote Run RV Park Connell, WA

Butte KOA Butte, MT

Overnight stop.  Just OK for a KOA.

Big Sky Camp and RV Park Miles City, MT

Red Trail Campground Medora, ND

Decent gravel spaces, good to explore nearby Theodore Roosevelt National Park.  Park for kids.  Karoake sung by staff-interesting.  Nice owners.

Jamestown Campground Jamestown, ND

St Cloud/Clearwater RV Park Clearwater, MN

America’s Best Campground Branson, MO

Very friendly staff, great laundry facilities, wifi is decent, cable not so good.  Gravel spaces are alright due to hilly nature of campground.  Outdoor pool and spa are a nice touch.  Playground was ok.

Fort Amarillo RV Park Amarillo, TX

Massive gravel pull through spaces, awesome gift shop, nice fenced playground area, indoor heated pool, inexpensive laundry facilities, quaint fish pond, good wifi, workout room, excellent front desk and maintenance staff.  Location is a little strange, but is close to shopping and restaurants.  Appears to be some long term/permanent residents, but park is nicely kept.  Would definitely stay here again.

High Desert RV Park Albuquerque, NM

Really friendly staff, good rates, easy in and out location right off the expressway.  Large gravel spots.  Nice recreation room with pool tables, TV area, showers and laundry.  Nice views.  Slow Wifi.

Distant Drums RV Resort Camp Verde, AZ

Great staff, nice paved spots, good library, laundry.  Great views.  Wifi is good.

About Travel 50 States

My parents instilled a love of travel within me since my childhood, when they took my sisters and I on some memorable trips around the United States, exposing us to historical sites and vast landscapes.

My dad has visited nearly all 50 states, but my mother has visited EVERY one of the 50 states, a grand accomplishment, and a tradition that I will strive to live on with my own family.

This blog is a way for me to chronicle my travels, as well as share my experiences with others.  My hope is that I can be a resource for your own journey, whether it helps you to learn about places you plan to travel, allows you to reminisce about a similar journey you’ve taken, or simply brings you along for the ride.
