Our friends treated us to a tour around London with a cruise on the Thames River, beginning at the Tower of London, and ending at Greenwich. We loved seeing some of London’s iconic sights from the River, including Big Ben, the London Eye, and Tower Bridge.
We departed the boat at Greenwich, and walked through Greenwich Park up to the Royal Observatory Greenwich, where we took turns standing with one foot on each side of the Prime Meridian Line.
Next we walked to the National Maritime Museum, which was free of charge, and spent about an hour checking out the exhibits.
We strolled past Cutty Sark in Greenwich, the world’s last surviving tea clipper and through the Greenwich Market, which had all kinds of fun odds and ends. We didn’t linger too long, as our backpacks wouldn’t have accommodated any flea market finds. We also wandered around the grounds at the Old Royal Naval College.
After grabbing a meal, we headed to the O2 and Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park to let the kids enjoy themselves for awhile.
That evening the guys continued catching up and exploring Crouch End.
A few days later, we reunited once again with our friends, who took us on a stroll through the Southbank. We quickly came across a book market that we couldn’t resist perusing, and the kids picked up a couple books to entertain themselves.
The weather was nearly perfect, and we took our time admiring the people, music, buildings, and even sand sculptures along the way.
We passed Shakespeare’s Globe Theater, the Tate Modern museum, and hit Borough Market for a tasty lunch experience.
Near the end of our walk on the Southbank, we walked across the beautiful Tower Bridge.
We went to a beautiful, old pub called The Dickens Inn, and enjoyed some snacks and drinks with our friends.
The kids couldn’t resist wrapping up our day with a short visit to the playground next to the Tower Hill Tube station before heading home. With views of The Tower of London, how could we argue?
After hitting so many London sites over several busy days, the following day we would take a day trip to another country to experience one of the most famous landmarks in the world!
