We are setting off on a new travel adventure this spring, which actually involves leaving the country! We are going to attend our first ever Summit for WorldSchooling families. This is a gathering of families sharing and learning about world travel, while immersing ourselves in the local culture!
The Summit will take place over 5 days in Merida, Mexico, which is located in the Yucatan Peninsula. We will be spending 5 weeks in the Yucatan, doing a combination of vacationing (with time off work) and living, schooling, and working. This will be the boy’s very first plane ride, and my first in over 10 years (yikes!).
Rough Itinerary
For the beginning half of our adventure, we will explore the Riviera Maya, including Cancun, Playa Del Carmen, Akumal, Tulum, and Valladolid. We will visit many Mayan sites, including the pyramids and ruins of Chichen Itza, Tulum, Coba, and perhaps Ek’ Balam. The Yucatan is also famous for its cenotes. Cenotes are natural sinkholes filled with water and are often in caves, which people enjoy swimming or snorkeling in.

We will then spend about 3 weeks in the city of Merida where the rally takes place. The kids will spend that time in a kid’s camp with other Worldschooling children, which will include cultural learning of Mayan culture, dance, crafts, and games.
Finally, we will rent an apartment in Merida for the last couple weeks. It will be a new experience for us to work, shop, cook, and live our normal life in a large, foreign city (without a car). Fortunately, some RVing friends will be meeting us there, along with their daughters. So, we will have some friends to hang out with and explore a different country together. We are beyond excited. When I return, I will have plenty of new things to blog about!
