While in Palm Springs, we took a drive to the Indian Canyons, Agua Client Indian Reservation. There is an admission fee, and there was quite a line to get in, but the trails were very nice.

The Agua Caliente Cahuilla Indians settled in the area centuries ago, and grew beans, squash, corn, and melons in the area. They were known as being industrious and creative, peaceful and independent. Some remains of Cahuilla society still remain, including house pits, rock art, and irrigation ditches. Several of the canyons within the Reservation are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Palm Canyon was the first place that we visited upon arrival, which had a nice Trading Post. Palm Canyon is known as the world’s largest California Fan Palm Oasis. It was beautiful, and very odd to see all these Palm Trees gathered inside the Canyon, with barren mountains surrounding them. The path brought you right through the middle of the trees, and then branched off into a few different trail options.
Then we drove a few miles to Andreas Canyon, which is a half mile lush oasis, surrounded by desert. There is a nice trail right alongside a stream, where you climb up and down the rock path, eventually crossing a small footbridge, and then loop back. The contrast after turning around the loop to complete the trail is incredibly different! It was a beautiful hike.
We really enjoyed our day here. You can easily spend an entire day here – pack a lunch and hit one of the many trails.
